Graham's history of penning edge-of-your-seat, biting political theatrical dramas including Quiz, Ink and Labour of Love, mark him as uniquely qualified to tackle a thriller about the 'myriad tactics employed to swing one of the most surprising referendum results in living memory'.
Set to unpack the 'anatomy of the historic, high-stakes campaign to win the hearts and minds of the British people' the drama will pull apart the data-driven political campaign that launched us into this frightening new world as an isolated (and likely not so great) Great Britain, in what has proved to be one of the most contentious political manoeuvres in recent history.
Cumberbatch will step into the shoes of Dominic Cummings – a man whose role in as leading strategist and Campaign Director of Vote Leave has been publicly eclipsed by the likes of Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson – but who carried huge political weight in influencing the course of the campaign.
'Venturing from high street campaigning to top level political influence, and then stepping even further into the darker corners of the internet, Brexit [working title] sets out not to be an analysis of who was right and who was wrong, but rather is the story of how it happened, and why,' Channel 4 said.
Graham added: 'I'm so excited, not to mention a little nervous, to have this chance to try and get under the skin of what happened during that historic vote. I hope by going behind-the-scenes of the campaign, we're able to interrogate the consequences of what happened during these 8 weeks that have changed the country forever. To work with this incredible team and Channel 4 to bring this story to life on screen is a real honour.'
