What to do in Chelsea
Ahead of START – the cutting-edge contemporary London art fair housed in the Saatchi Gallery – we round up the best restaurants, theatre and shopping in the area. Here's what to do in Chelsea this autumn
Tucked away beside the Thames, Chelsea Physic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in Britain. The Garden was founded in 1673, as the Apothecaries’ Garden, with the purpose of training apprentices in the identification and use of medicinal plants.
Today, the Garden shelters a magnificent living collection of around 5,000 different edible, useful, medicinal and historical plants. While we particularly love the spring snowdrops, the Chelsea Physic Garden is a tranquil retreat away from the urban jungle at all times of the year.
After a hectic day pacing around START's numerous galleries, this is the place to escape the hustle and bustle to unwind.
