Feel Britannia: Sam Lee
SERIES: we ask Mercury-nominated folk singer Sam Lee "what makes you feel emotional about Britain?
We asked our favourite figures in the arts to tell us what makes Britain feel like home.
Mercury-nominated musician Sam Lee:
“Every year, I head to Padstow on May Day to see the incredible ancient ceremony of the Obby Oss. The whole town comes together to sing in the new season.
The dance of the black lacquered Oss leaps through town in a sea of white-clothed Cornish townsfolk, accompanied by the chanting drums and the accordions of the mystical Padstow May Song. The lament, when the Oss dies and rises to life again when the whole town cheer "Oss Oss Wee Oss” rinses me through and I annually weep in joy.”
Mercury-nominated folk musician Sam Lee will be at the Brighton Festival this year.
