Feel Britannia: Zinnie Harris
SERIES: We ask playwright Zinnie Harris "What makes you feel emotional about Britain?"
In anticipation of May 7, we asked our favourite figures in the arts to tell us what makes Britain feel like home.
Playwright Zinnie Harris:
"We have the recipe for my husband's grandmother’s war-time Christmas cake, that makes me think of how people make do in adversity. A little flour, grated carrot and potato, breadcrumbs, a small amount of dried fruit and not a lot else. The story goes that they had saved all their dried fruit for a year to make it, and when it came out of the oven on Christmas Eve she dropped it and it broke on the floor."
Zinnie Harris' most recent play How to Hold your Breath was at the Royal Court Theatre. Her work has also been perfumed at The RSC and the National Theatre of Scotland.
