After much anticipation, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London is finally throwing open the doors of its iconic Italian Cast Court to reveal a sea of Renaissance masterpieces. If you missed the Cast Court V&A before its closure, this collection of 19^th century replicas is really the heart and soul of the V&A and gives us an insight into crucial works of art without a one way EasyJet ticket to Italy.

Big hitters in the sculpture gallery which are sure to attract the crowds include Michelangelo’s gargantuan nude of David
(1501-4) and the original leaf that once covered his modesty. Lorenzo Ghiberti’s winning bid for the doors of the Florentine Baptistery (1403-1424) is a particularly special moment as well as Jacopo della Quercia’s breath-taking great arch from the Basilica of San Petronio Bologna.

Aficionados of the Italian Renaissance will also be keen to see the stand-off between father and son sculptors, Nicola Pisano and Giovanni Pisano, with their rival elaborate pulpits from Pisa Cathedral.
