Tickets for the world's most famous music festival are very, very hard to get – but not impossible. And if you've never been to the granddaddy of the countless wannabe festivals that Glastonbury has spawned, you really should. After all these years, it still has a uniquely good-natured and almost spiritual atmosphere (think the good karma of Ibiza in deepest, darkest Somerset) and is so huge that everyone can find somewhere they feel at home. In a forthcoming feature we'll be explaining how to 'do' Glastonbury in a chilled, comfortable and boutique way and avoid the people wearing ridiculous headgear, drinking lager and drowning in mud. Meantime, here's what to do to land those tickets...
1. Register
Registration will close at 23:59 on Tuesday 30th September and unless you have registered you will not be able to buy tickets. You will need to fill in your name and address details and upload a passport quality photograph. All tickets are personally ID'ed to prevent resale and ticket touts.
2. Don't delay when tickets go on sale
Tickets go on sale in two tranches, the first to give priority to ticket-holders who will be coming by coach (at 7pm on Wednesday 1st October) as part of Glastonbury's commitment to the environment. All other tickets go on sale at 9am on Sunday 5th October. You will need to be poised with your credit card at these times and keep hitting the refresh button on your browser until you're lucky enough to get through. Persistence, in our experience, pays off.
3. Go to the Glastonbury site for useful hints and tips on maximising your chances.
4. Wait for the second release
Glastonbury announces a second release of tickets in the spring of the year of the festival (2015 in this case). Keep an eye on the website for the announcement of this date.
