There are a host of places where you can see stunning carpets of purple around London and in the city itself. From sweeping vistas of violet to little gardens of lilac, here’s where to enjoy this fragrant flora.
Mayfield Lavender Farm is the undisputed lord of lavender out of the fields (just) within the city. 25 acres of luscious blooms are located in Banstead (Woodmansterne), Surrey – approximately 15 miles from Central London reachable by train or bus. Fool your Instagram followers to thinking that you're cavorting around the South of France rather than the outskirts of Croyden. Dine next to the fields at the farm's al fresco cafe where you can sample various edible lavender products such as tea and cider. The farm opens on 1 June for four months giving you plenty of time to visit these bright corridors of colour.

Lambeth Palace has been the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury since 1197 and is home to one of the oldest gardens in England.
