While there will be terrors aplenty at this Late event, the theme of the night is actually getting to know the museum's, er, misunderstood inhabitants. But as for which creepy creatures will be getting a second hearing, you'll have to come along and find out.
If you'd like to add some more spook to your evening, there are two tours running during the event for an additional fee: the Tank Room Tour offers the chance to peer at a plethora of jars containing specimens from around the world – including a giant squid! – all preserved in alcohol. If that doesn't sound scary enough, then opt for the aptly named Spooky Tour and pay a visit to some of the museum's strangest specimens.
If this leaves you feeling thoroughly unsettled, take a break from the sinister stuff by paying a visit to the museum's acclaimed Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition – entry to which is included with your ticket.
Whichever chambers of the museum you visit, don't leave the night before having a boogie in the Hintze Hall under its colossal blue whale skeleton, which will be eerily lit up for the occasion.
Costumes are very much encouraged, of course, so come dressed to distress.
