A bluffer's guide to famous films
Everyone's talking about The Silence of the Lambs now that it's being re-released. Don't know what it's about? Fear not, here's a bluffer's guide to five famous films
What's it about?: It's usually billed as a crime saga, but The Godfather is really about the inner-workings of the Corleone family and the demise of an ailing institution. Though there is of course a whole lot of violence – it does centre around the mafia after all..
Why all the fuss: It's an absolute masterpiece from the intense opening to the goosebump-inducing conclusion. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino are indescribably good as father and son Vito and Michael. Everything from the script, to the cinematography and the soundtrack is perfection.
Do quote: Almost too many brilliant quotes to choose from but 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli' seems like a pretty good maxim to live by.
Don't put your foot in it: Whatever you do, don't call it overrated. This is perhaps the one of film everyone agrees is worthy of the hype.
Wow your friends with this fact: Watch out for oranges. They foreshadow death in every film in the Godfather trilogy.
