The plot follows chemist Sidney Stratton (Stephen Mangan), inventor of a fabric that never gets dirty and never wears out. All of a sudden, Sidney becomes the target of an angry mob of manufacturers and trade unions terrified by the threat his brilliant new invention poses to their jobs. The only person Sidney can rely on to help him elude their wrath is Daphne (Kara Tointon), the mill owner's daughter.
The production has all the makings for rip-roaring success, with the reunion of Stephen Mangan and Sean Foley – who also created the Olivier award-winning production Jeeves and Wooster. Mangan cut his teeth on Broadway in The Norman Conquests, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. Also in the cast is the striking Kara Tointon, who most recently played Olivia in the RSC'S production of Twelfth Night.
One of the most love British films of all time, no doubt this timeless comedy will triumph on stage in an evening of farcical chaos, mad dashing and cat-and-mouse antics.
