Grounded is back at Notting Hill’s respected Gate Theatre, but only for 5 performances. The play sold out last season and we strongly recommend you book this time around.
George Brant’s Grounded is a military drama from the multi-award winning American playwright that scooped 2013 Smith Prize – an award that recognises an outstanding piece of American political theatre. This one-woman show gives a female perspective on the ever-evolving “War on Terror”. When The Pilot falls pregnant, this hot-rod F16 aviator must trade in her fighter jet for a drone; the big blue sky for a small dark room, the actual for the virtual. Now a member of the ‘chair force’, she must reconcile the roles of warrior and mother, in an air-conditioned trailer somewhere in the Nevada desert.
An hour-long monologue is always risky, but Brant’s writing has been applauded for its lyricism and gripping intensity. Lucy Ellison‘s lone performance is incandescent, building on the success of her previous run in Trojan Women, also at the Gate.
