My name is..., Arcola Theatre

A new verbatim tale of love, family and ever-shifting identities, My Name Is... opens at the Arcola this April. It follows the story of a young girl in Scotland whose disappearance leads to the assumption that she has been kidnapped by her Pakistani father. It soon becomes apparent, however, that Gaby may have left of her own accord, and decided to her back on her western upbringing. 

Theatre company Tamasha is known for creating striking cross-cultural work with British and Asian roots, aiming to create work which explores ‘the multiple narratives and global perspectives of Britain’s evolving culture’. This performance, charting events that briefly hit the headlines in 2006, is created directly from the words of individuals involved, permitting a unique degree of honesty.

Last year, a rehearsed reading of the play was performed at the High Tide festival, with an audience member remarking that it was a ‘story that needs to be told’. We reckon it’s one that needs to be seen too.
