Finsbury Park’s Park Theatre is only in its second year of programming, but has already garnered A-list support from Celie Imrie, Tamzin Outhwaite and Sir Ian McKellan.
After a raft of adventurous new shows in 2013 this punchy little venue is showing no signs of slowing down. The spring season kicks off in April with acclaimed screenwriter William Ivory’s explosive drama Bomber’s Moon.
This is the story of former RAF gunner Jimmy and his new care assistant, David. As Jimmy’s memory drags him into the past and the abject, godless terror of his World War II bombing raids, devout Catholic David faces a parallel struggle to leave his tortured past behind him and build a new future.
Currently one of TV’s hottest writers, William Ivory’s career has taken him from stints as a dustman, stage hand and actor to producing the award-winning screenplays for the 2010 film Made in Dagenham, a 2011 TV adaptation of D. H. Lawrence’s Women in Love, and rapturously-received BBC dramas Truckers (2013) and Burton and Taylor (2013).
Director Matt Aston shares Ivory’s (and Bomber’s Moon’s) Nottingham roots and has been with the project since its opening in 2010. His work on this production’s previous regional runs has been described as nothing short of excellent. In 2011 The Stage called Bomber’s Moon a ‘masterpiece’, while The Birmingham Post called it ‘touching, funny’ and ‘memorable’.
