French playwright Jean Anouilh's smash hit comedy Le Voyageur Sans Bagage gets an English update at the Donmar Warehouse.
A classic in France, the 1937 play about a WWI veteran with amnesia, who is claimed by numerous different families, was based on the true story of soldier Anthelme Mangin.
Now up and coming playwright Anthony Weigh updates and recolates this story of confused idenity to a hot, sticky Long Island summer during the Cold War. Captain Jack Fox returns to his family in The Hamptons — 15 years after being declared missing in action in France.
But this family reunion is fraught with chaos: is this man who he claims to be, is this really his family, and why do so many other people claim kinship with this mysterious soldier…?
Multi-award-winning director Blanche McIntyre, who recently impressed with raucous revivals of Comedy of Errors (2014) and As You Like It (2015) at the Globe, will make her Donmar debut directing Welcome Home, Captain Fox!.
The cast of seasoned stage actors includes Donmar regular Francesca Annis (Henry IV; The Vortex; The Machine) and Olivier-nominee Katherine Kingsley (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, West End).
Public booking for Welcome Home, Captain Fox! opens on Friday 11 December.
