A Wolf in Snakeskin Shoes: play premiere
Taking Moliere's Tartuffe as its inspiration, this new play is updated and relocated to deepest Atlanta. Multi-millionaire Archibald Organdy is arranging his own death. Rather than prolong the end, he chooses to die surrounded by his family. But a mysterious preacher arrives bearing a miracle cure. Self-proclaimed healer Tardimus Toof rolls into town in his snakeskin shoes with the promise of absolution. But the archbishop is not entirely what he seems.
Marcus Gardley: Tricycle Theatre
Playwright Marcus Gardley returns to the Tricycle after the triumph of last year's The House that Will Not Stand and while his play An Issue of Blood is currently earning rave reviews in Chicago. He reunites with the Tricycle's artistic director Indhu Rubasingham on this new project, having worked together on The House. Gardley has earned dozens of awards including the Helen Merrill Distinguished Playwright Award and the Eugene O'Neill Memorial Scholarship. In an interview, he explains that for him, "writing plays is akin to writing music...the actors are the instruments and the players. I know that my gift is the written word. Others have the gift to speak those words and breathe life into the music."
Expect a sexy, darker adaptation from Gardley (suitable only for audience members aged 14+) at the world premiere of A Wolf in Snakeskin Shoes. Rubasingham promises it to be "a wickedly original take on Moliere's Tartuffe" at the heart of the Tricycle's autumn season.
