If it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, it is most definitely a travesty to miss the revival of Christopher Sergel’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Artistic director Timothy Sheader takes directorial duties once again. His history of unconventional theatre (he was behind Cameron Mackintosh’s extraordinary Barnum at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2013) makes him ideally suited to the unique challenges of open-air theatre.
Tickets are on sale now for what The Daily Telegraph called “a production of tremendous heart and emotional depth”. The 2013 production was a sell-out, not least because the iconic shoes of Atticus Finch were filled by Hollywood (and House) star Robert Sean Leonard. The cast for the 2014 revival has yet to be announced, and we must hope that the star power of last year was not the only thing drawing the crowds to this wonderful show.
