A theatre director is interrupted during rehearsal by a group of individual who claim to be looking for someone to finish their story... A cast of 14 bring this bizarre interplay between life and fiction to life in this absurd and arresting revival of classic play, Six Characters in Search of an Author.
Director Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota is no stranger to the Barbican, nor to surrealist theatre, bringing Ionesco’s Rhinocéros to the venue in 2013.
Running at 1 hour 50 minutes with no interval, this is not a performance for the faint hearted or the theatrical newcomer. Pirandello’s play has divided critics ever since its opening, with some praising it as a work of absolute absurdist genius, instrumental in winning its creator the 1934 Nobel Prize for literature, and others considering it bizarre, difficult and needlessly hard to follow.
If you like your theatre challenging and disconcerting book now for the short four day run.
