For three nights only this August, the National Theatre's Olivier stage will be taken over by a vast company comprised of professional actors alongside amateurs of all ages, from all across the city. They come together for a new musical production of Shakespeare's Pericles. which marks the launch of Public Acts.
Based on the innovation and success of New York City's Public Works programme, this new National Theatre initiative to unite theatre and the community. The NT will work alongside eight local organisations to make productions accessible, relevant and enjoyable to wider and more diverse audiences.
Writer Chris Bush and composer James Fortune revive the classic story of a Prince who must abandon his home and brave the open sea. Music punctuates his journey as themes of friendship, kindness and interaction give the large community cast plenty to consider.
Public booking for Pericles at the National Theatre opens at 8:30am on Friday 18 May.
