Concerned about arts education? Contemporary artist Bob and Roberta Smith (aka Patrick Brill) is leading the charge with a new immersive exhibition called Arts Emergency Response Centre at London Metropolitan University's Cass Bank Gallery.
Bob and Roberta Smith & Michael Gove
You might remember Bob and Roberta Smith's fiery open letter in 2011 to former Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove, which berated the rise in tuition fees and the cuts in arts education during the Conservative government. Now the Tate Trustee and Royal Academician is even running against Gove for the Surrey Heath seat.
Arts Emergency Response Centre exhibition
Arts Emergency is a new charity that helps low income teenagers reach university and Art School, allowing young people to explore careers in the arts. This new exhibition at The Cass Bank Gallery kicks starts the campaign for the arts in the run up to the General Election with a literal response centre 'hospital ward' where celebrity Arts Emergency Pharmacists like musician Jarvis Cocker and BAFTA award-winning actress Samantha Morton are handing out Arts Emergency Kits and cultural prescriptions! Treatment also comes in the form of knowledge and advice from art organisation 'clinics' like The Art Party, Q Art, The National Association of Educators in Art and Design (NSEAD), Craftivist Collective, Bow Arts, Deptford X, The Cultural Learning Alliance and the Artists Union.
Each week a new theme ignites debate about the importance of the arts, as a tool for critical thinking, individual expression and wellbeing, with talks led by Bob and Roberta Smith and emerging artists.
Ignite your passion for the arts and their place in your political manifesto at The Cass Bank Gallery exhibition.
