For many, Charles Dickens is as much a part of Christmas as mulled wine and mice pies. Luckily, at The Idler Academy this December, you can enjoy all three in one at their one-man version of A Christmas Carol.
Veteran of the West End Sir Timothy Ackroyd takes centre stage. An enduring fan of Dickens, Ackroyd also performed in the writer’s lesser-known ghost story The Signalman in 2008. He was also the director when Tracey Emin made her debut as a set designer in a 2004 production of Les Parents Terribles.
Ackroyd’s relationship with the Idler Academy has seen him deliver a vast range of talks and performances at the venue. This mid winter celebration may not be theatre in the strictest sense, but with an accomplished performer, a classic Christmas tale and seasonal treats of the edible variety, there is more than enough to warm your cockles.
