Bestselling author Amy Tan will be in town at the end of November for a triple bill of events to promote her latest novel, The Valley of Amazement .
A writer of both American and Chinese heritage, Tan is known for deftly exploring themes of cultural identity, as well as fraught mother-daughter relationships. And in her latest offering – the story of a courtesan in fin-de-siècle Shanghai that spans generations and continents – it looks like she’s done it again.
Her mini London tour begins at Foyles , with a reading from the new novel followed by a discussion of her writing and the challenges she faces in tackling her chosen themes.
The next day she revisits her hit debut novel, New York Times bestseller The Joy Luck Club , joining Professor John Mullan for a Guardian Book Club conversation and Q&A.
And to round things off she joins spoken word artist Malika Booker and singer-songwriter HowAboutBeth at literary nightclub Book Slam. Look forward to a free-style evening of discussion, poetry and performance.
