Mark Wallinger and Marina Warner Purcell Room, Southbank Centre

Although commuters may curse its name daily, it's safe to say we'd be lost without the London Underground. This year is its 150th anniversary, and to celebrate, leading contemporary artist and winner of the 2007 Turner Prize Mark Wallinger has created a major new artwork for the iconic London transport system. Labyrinth is an extensive multi-part work, consisting of a set of enamel plaques with a labyrinthine design installed at every one of the tube's 270 stations.

As part of their Literature Autumn Season 2013, the Southbank Centre will be hosting an insightful talk on 9 December, in which Wallinger will discuss his intriguing new artwork with the novelist and mythographer Marina Warner. The pair will delve into the mysteries and myths that surround the symbol of the labyrinth, and explore the richness of Wallinger's practice, which often layers historical and cultural references.
