Having penned the controversial portrayal of unplanned pregnancy, The L-Shaped Room , along with enduring adventure story The Indian in the Cupboard , Lynne Reid Bank shows unparalleled scope as a writer. She can switch between subtle , sophisticated prose on hard-hitting subjects and bright, bold writing that engages younger readers.

Banks has described how she feels most natural when writing for children, and her achievements in this genre were celebrated in 2013 when she was lauded with the J.M Barrie Award for Action for Children's Arts.

Her latest novel, Uprooted, appeals to both younger and older readers. Heavily influenced by her own experiences, it depicts a young girl's travels across Canada during the war.

Banks will discuss this latest story, along with her rich repertoire of work, with journalist and literary consultant Heather Abrams.

THE LONDON JEWISH CULTURE CENTRE

Many of these events, though not all, take place in the spacious surroundings of the London Jewish Culture Centre. This historic venue was one the home of star Ballerina Anna Pavlova. Now it's been converted into a multi-functional education and event space, which welcomes around 1,7000 people a week, of all faiths, to a vast selection of courses and cultural activities.
