Once a literary enfant terrible, now a family man and Man Booker nominee, Will Self’s novels tackle tough subjects such as mental illness and substance abuse in a style that has prompted comparisons with counterculture icons Hunter S. Thompson and William Borroughs.
His latest book, Shark, is his tenth novel and is due to be published on 4th september. The narrative begins a year before his acclaimed novel Umbrella and intwines different tales to a devastating effect: on one day in May 1970 American troops are sent into Cambodia; four students at Kent State University are shot dead; in suburban London a psychiatrist finds himself accidentally taking part in an acid trip. Five years later the true significance of these events say begins to take shape.
