Sustainable Christmas candles
There are many ways to take a more climate-friendly approach to Christmas with sustainable wrapping ideas and thoughtful gifting but there are also choices we can make in how we scent our home.
There’s no denying that a Yuletide candle has a way of transforming a living space and as tempting as some scents may be, we should check the ingredient list.
With so much time spent indoors around this time of year, the last thing we want is to compromise our health by burning chemicals which could potentially trigger allergies and headaches, not to mention the irritating black marks that appear around the edges, which are caused by petroleum soot.
To avoid these fossil fuel-derived waxes, often labelled as 'paraffin' or ‘mineral wax’, look for more eco-friendly alternatives such as soy, rapeseed and coconut.
Top tip for making your candles last longer: burn for approximately two to four hours or until the wax reaches a full melt pool. Trim your wick to 5mm before each burn.
Here are a few of our favourite clean-burning candles to spark some Christmas joy.
