Autumn trend: ballet flats we want to shop now
When we spotted Keira Knightley wearing red velvety Mary Jane shoes on the streets of London back in April this year, we were not yet sold on the ballet flats trend but were starting to be more open to it.
Then Alaïa's mesh ballerinas started filling our timelines and quickly became the most coveted fashion item of the summer. We started looking for an online cheaper equivalent with not much luck.
Come September, we now see ballet flats everywhere, making our gazelles look seriously out of fashion. We are totally sold; it's time to embrace the trend.
But let's ponder before going shopping:
Should we break the bank for a pair of Miu Miu with elastic straps or classics from The Row? How about picking velvety Venetian Mary Janes – à la Keira – at a much more affordable price? Perhaps we could get a pair of iconic Lanvin, which have just been re-edited, or the Alaïa-inspired (still totally sold out) Reformation number, which is also high on our wish list.
Keira styled her red Mary Janes with tapered jeans and an oversized grey jacket. Ballet flats are also great to wear with a maxiskirt or black leggings in true 90s fashion.
We advise getting a cobbler to put a slip-resistant tread on the soles. And get a padded insole to make them more comfortable to wear.
