When director Mariame Clément’s production of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale premiered at the Glyndebourne Festival in 2013, it immediately garnered critical acclaim. A highlight of the Italian comic opera tradition, its riotous tale of romance and deception was brought to stage with a rare sense of realism.

Now, for the Glyndebourne Tour 2015, Don Pasquale is back, with an all-new cast. With dates in six venues across the south of England, this is a chance for those who missed it the first time around to discover the opera’s joys. Baritone José Fadilha takes the title role as the lustful patriarch, with Tuomas Katajala and Eliana Pretorian playing his nephew and his improvised lover. And helping the star-crossed youths in their plots is Dr. Malatesta, played by baritone John Brancy, Juilliard graduate and one of opera’s rising stars.

John Brancy, described by the New York Times as a ‘vibrant, resonate presence’, studied both undergraduate and postgraduate singing courses at the prestigious Juilliard School. He made his professional debut in a Dresden Semperoper production of The Barber of Seville, before winning the first prize in the Marilyn Horne Song Competition. In the two seasons since, he has played a diverse range of roles across the world. His Glyndebourne Touring Opera appearance marks both his debut with the company and his first performance in the United Kingdom. Catch him now for a glimpse of a true emerging talent.
