When it comes to finding inspiring STEM role models in London, we don't have to look too far: Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon, MBE, founded the Stemettes to help increase interest and opportunity for girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), with free events that also tempt kids with their offerings of free pizza.
This July, a Stemettes Future Summit is taking place in London in partnership with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, on July 13. The half-day or all-day event brings together many STEM role models to inspire the next generation of tech-loving girls, and also boasts creative opportunities while giving youngsters the chance to hear all about different careers in tech from people in the industry, including Stemettes alums.
The Stemettes Future Summit includes activities for under-8s for a half-day experience, with Imagination Lab Live, a STEM Treasure Hunt and an exhibition. 8-12s can spend a morning or afternoon working on Project Cyber, learning about life as a Life Scientist and Making Robots, while 13-18-year-olds can join in with Lightning Talks, take part in Leadership & Technology Workshops and learn all about Career Planning. There are also events for parents, and the summit is hosted by none other than Imafidon.
Teens should look out for other Stemettes events in 2019, including a hackathon with the Post Office and a mentorship programme for girls aged 15+. Check out the full calendar of events here.
