A dose of Moomin Madness is coming to London this summer with Polka Theatre's adaptation of the popular Swedish children’s book by Tove Jansson.
Jansson’s loveable hippo-like creatures share their magical world with witches and trolls. In Moominsummer Madness a disastrous flood sweeps through the valley, forcing the Moomin family to look for shelter. They discover an intriguing deserted house -- but soon find out that it is not abandoned after all... In fact, it’s a theatre. Mystery and nonsense abound, with secret doorways and missing family members that must all eventually be reunited. Then Moominpapa suggests putting on a play...
The Polka’s newly installed Artistic Director Peter Glanville directs this summer show, along with Dani Parr, associate director with the Royal and Derngate Theatre in Northampton (which will also see a run of Moominsummer). Having previously headed The Little Angel Theatre, Glanville brings puppetry expertise. So, expect to see lovely hand-made puppets punctuating the performance. A lively cast will bring Janesson's story to life, as the play about a play reveals the magic and madness of theatre.
Perfect for ages four to eight.
