What Christmas would be complete without a classic pantomime? There's no better antidote to the winter chills, and Jack and the Beanstalk, this year's offering from the Lyric Hammersmith, promises as ever to be a most festive affair.
Director Dan Herd presents a delightfully updated adaptation of the traditional fairytale, featuring a script by Critics Circle Most Promising Playwright award-winner Tom Wells, and starring perennial pantomime favourite Steven Webb, who will also act as Creative Associate this year.
Webb's previous Lyric panto credits include the lead in Dick Whittington and His Cat (2010), Wishy Washy the monkey in Aladdin (2011), and the hilarious Buttons in last year's smash-hit Cinderella. Cinderella was one of the theatre's highest grossing productions ever, so we expect great things from Jack and the Beanstalk.
Follow the riotous adventures of the lovable Jack as he grapples with an enchanted kingdom in the clouds, a coveted goose, an evil giant (boo hiss!), and of course, a massive beanstalk. With colourful costumes, catchy songs, a healthy dollop of audience participation and some unexpected zumba, there's something for the whole family in this cracking production.
Altogether now, 'He's behind you!'
