These two Croatian cellists amazed the world in 2011, when they put their cello arrangement of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal on YouTube. Now, with their rockstar looks and rock-to-Baroque repertoire, they have fans worldwide.
Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser were classically trained, but they see new horizons for the cello – an instrument that can seem sedate, but which is also capable of great passion and drama. The boys have appeared on many US shows and have had big hits with two huge crossover albums.
In their debut concert at the Royal Albert Hall, with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra they will perform the whole of their new album, Score, released this month. In it they reinterpret the world of TV and film music, with arrangements of music from Game of Thrones, Schindler’s List, The Lord of the Rings, The Godfather, Gladiator and those perennial favourites,Titanic and Chariots of Fire. And it's all done with their distinctive, duelling and rocking virtuosity.
Special guest is the mezzo-soprano Laura Wright, whose debut album was nominated for Classic FM Album of the Year and who works regularly with classical superstars Alfie Boe, Andrea Bocelli and Russell Watson. She is also the official National Anthem singer for the England Rugby team.
Once your resident young musician sees what a lot of fun practice can lead to, they may be keener to pick up their bow. Let's just hope that bow doesn't end in shreds, like the bows of these fast and furious players...
