Opulent knits and denim galore: Autumn 2021 Fashion Trends
September is back, with its golden light and 'start afresh' feel. It's that time of the year when we are reorganising our wardrobes, rediscovering some beloved warmer clothes, coveting new fashion pieces and wondering what should be our must-have item of the new season.
The AW21 collections, released in the backdrop of the worldwide lockdown, set the tone for an opulent wardrobe. Comfort dressing is not going away but there is an appetite to wear clothes to impress.
Meanwhile, the street style of Copenhagen and Stockholm Fashion Weeks have shown a hunger for more joyous design. From neon bags to bold patterns and the reappearance of high heels, fun is very much the theme du jour. And so is Y2K fashion (trends and styles of the early 2000s).
Gen Z’s love for high printed T-shirts and beaded chockers is gaining momentum. Will we be tempted by the nostalgia?
According to NYT Fashion editor Vanessa Friedman, this Autumn is likely to be about 'some kind of crazy hybrid of high/lowness'. Our cozy lockdown clothes will still do the deal, let’s just make sure we spice them up with the right amount of glamour.
