The guitar-hefting, South-London screechers Palma Violets will be on home territory when they play SE1's Coronet this December. Within the current climate of electronic saturation it is always refreshing to see an old fashion rock band succeed: since the decline of Brit-pop and then mainstream Indie, success for the guitar-laden has been comparably rare. But never fear: straying away from 808 drum-machines and the 120 beats-per-minute tempos, this four-piece have ferociously thrust themselves into the public eye.
NME are backing them- they were 2011 Band of the Year, and their debut was Track of the Year. They've been nominated for the BBC Sound of 2013 poll and played on the exalted stages of both Jools Holland and Jimmy Kimmel. Having toured America in support of Django Django and Savages PV have at last announced UK dates.
All whoops, yells and rock-outs, what they lack in intensity they make up for in good old indie authenticity. Sharing a sound with their partners-in-crime Childhood, they fuse late 80s/early 90s Grunge and Shoegaze with a welcome sprinkle of mid-60s psychedelics. Have a listen here.
Given their reputation for rowdy gigs, this is a night that won't allow for lighters in the air, or the iPhone video-cam collective. If you find this as appealing as we do, it seems that on December 5 there is no other option but to grab your Lennon glasses and make haste to The Coronet .
