Hipster-bearded folk trio Bear’s Den return to London on the back of a sold-out North American tour to play the Electric Brixton this May.
Last year they supported New Folk heavyweights Mumford and Sons but now the boys are making waves on the scene in their own right. A sold-out Village Underground gig just before Christmas confirmed their headline status.
Traditional folk forms the basis of Bear's De's sound. Banjos overlay subtle acoustic melodies, while electric guitar riffs form a heavier foundation. Their debut EP Pompeii was a triumph of this blend; where the title track was an exercise in the modern folk song, Hard Life was a cacophony of blues, acoustic-rock and folk.
They're taking their time, musically. They've released three equally lovely EPs, their most recent Without/Within an extended track list which showcases an evolving style, blending their signature stripped-back folk with their newer pop-inflected electric riffs.
So far their success is under-the-radar, but this year is set to launch them - catch them before the crowds do.
