Folk fans won't want to miss the legendary songwriters Tom Paxton and Janis Ian when they perform together at the Barbican. Despite being born twenty years apart, they've both had a huge influence on the genre, providing inspiration for artists including Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Nick Drake.
Both tied to the Greenwich Village folk revival scene, Paxton started out writing protest songs but reached a wider audience with tracks such as Bottle of Wine and Last Thing on My Mind . Ian, meanwhile, made her name with Society’s Child (which she wrote when she was only 15); later, in the Seventies, her single At Seventeen would earn her a Grammy.
Paxton and Ian’s gentle acoustic sound takes a narrative approach, telling stories through tender melodies - and on this occasion their mellow, intimate aesthetic will be diversified by the renowned multi-instrumentalist Robin Bullock, who will provide accompaniment.
This is an unmissable opportunity to see two folk giants at their lyrical, bittersweet best. It's for one night only, though, so book now.
