It has been a good year for Chvrches, who play The Forum on March 14 and 15. To begin with, they were named one of the top ten BBC bands representing the Sound of 2013 after only releasing two tracks. The release of their formidable, dangerously hooky single The Mother We Share then rocketed them even more firmly into the lime-light, getting them a spot on Late Night with Jools Holland, Jimmy Fallon and a subsequent world tour. This is a meteoric rise which could only have been achieved with the help of internet; a tool they have used effectively with a quality not quantity mantra in their song releases.
The recent release of their debut album The Bones of What You Believe has given them their final critical and worldwide stamp of approval, proving the success of their previous singles to be anything but a fluke.
Fundamentally, this 80’s revivalist synth pop band are extremely difficult to dislike, crossing genre lines and picking up an array of eclectic fans along the way. This is all woven together by the singing of the dichotomous, mythic Lauren Mayberry. She is at once 14 and 25, static but kinetic and monotonous yet intoxicatingly captivating. Backed up by two hugely talented producers-cum-synth players, their live shows are critically known to be musically tight and lively affairs.
It is these ingredients which makes their sure-to-sell-out live show at Kentish Town’s The Forum an absolute must.
