Latin jazz fans are in for a treat this August, when Carribbean colour comes to Ronnie's,courtesy of Cuban saxophonist/clarinettist Paquito D'Rivera. This former member of both Irakere and Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nation Orchestra has 12 Grammys, over 30 solo albums and numerous hall of fame entries to his name.
He’ll be teaming up with hotly tipped Brazilian outfit Trio Corrente, who draw on traditional rhythms and styles, from samba and bossa nova, to choro.
Expect tracks from their collaborative 2013 release Songs for Maura, which juxtaposes the scampering melodies and intricate grooves of Chorinho Pra Você and Di Menor with frenetic favourites and bittersweet ballads, including the album’s title track, a tender D’Rivera composition.
