This one-off storytelling extravaganza should be a spectacular feast for eyes and ears. The Crick Crack Club has been bringing this ancient art-form up to date for over 25 years now, producing sell-out shows at venues like the Soho Theatre, Richmix, and nationwide. Here they team up with members of the renowned world music collective Transglobal Underground.
It is partnerships such as this which have allowed their work to burst the conventional perception of the genre as largely for children. The two performers here are sitar virtuoso Sheema Mukherjee and performance storyteller TUUP (The Unorthodox Unprecedented Preacher!), both of whom have an impressive range of experience, including collaborations with Courtney Pine and Noel Gallagher.
There is something totally thrilling about the freedom of the ‘storytelling’ experience, both for performers and audience. And with two such masters, the surprises in this unscripted show should be explosive and skilful. The original story cycle has been tried and tested since the 11th century; beyond the music and drama, we also simply expect to hear a ripping yarn in this wonderful evening at an intimate Camden venue. Likely to be one of the best London concerts this month for those seeking something a little out of the ordinary.
