See a performance from moody RnB artist Jessie Ware. Brixton Academy, the South Londoner's local venue, welcomes the soulful singer to perform songs from her new album
Following the release of her second album Tough Love in October, soulful singer Jessie Ware will play the Brixton Academy in January.
After appearing as a guest vocalist on dub-step tracks by artists SBTRKT and Joker, Ware released her first album, Devotion, in 2012, earning her widespread acclaim .
Her music blends RnB and pop, to create a densely layered and atmospheric sound that is complemented perfectly by Ware’s low-key vocals- a refreshing change from the current vogue for the belting, X-Factoresque female voice.
Tough Love is an exercise in understatement. The whole record simmers with sultry tension; Ware’s lithe delivery helps set a drowsy, somnolent tone, while the sleek production incorporates overdubbed vocal harmonies, mellow synthesisers, rippling electric piano and distorted hip-hop samples.
Album standout Running bubbles along a soulful vibe propelled by swelling synths and a slinky guitar line, recalling the moodier moments of high-production 1980s pop à la Spandau Ballet or Paul Young.
With the release of her new album, the South London native will be able to showcase her latest collection of songs to her local audience.
