Foo Fighters - London 2014 Invictus Games headliners - bring their muscular arena rock to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to close the games this September
U.S. hard rock giants Foo Fighters play the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as the headline act of the Invictus Games - Prince Harry’s competition for injured servicemen.
The multi-Grammy-winners (they won the Best Rock Album award for four out of their five releases since 1999’s There Is Nothing Left to Lose ) have been producing highway-blasting, crunching guitar-heavy rock since their 1995 self-titled debut.
Dave Grohl - formerly drummer with Nirvana - is the creative driving force behind their rise to late ‘90s indie rock stardom; he wrote and performed all of the songs on their debut and only recruited additional musicians when it came to touring the album.
Borrowing the loud/soft dynamics of Nirvana, the Foo Fighters have crafted their own sound by fusing abrasive guitar thrash with glittering pop melodies, as can be heard on career standouts Monkey Wrench , Everlong and All My Life .
In recent years the band have expanded their sound, with Grohl showing a more delicate side to his songwriting. Their albums In Your Honour (2005) and Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace (2007) feature a mixture of hard rock songs and melodic acoustic tracks.
The band have been on a musical break since 2012 and have not released an album since 2011’s Wasting Light . Although they have said they are working on a new project set for release this year.
Foo Fighters’ muscular arena-ready rock will be a fitting close to the Invictus Games’ display of strength and spirit.
