Folk singer, Vashti Bunyan is due to play two intimate concerts at St Pancras Old Church this October 2014 .
Bunyan comes with quite the backstory. The delicate-voiced songstress first began recording music in the 1960s after being expelled from University of Oxford and travelling to New York, where she became captivated with Bob Dylan’s music .
After releasing several singles, she recorded the album Just Another Diamond Day which was released to disappointing sales in 1970. For the next 30 years Bunyan stepped out of the music industry but, unbeknownst to her, the album was quietly gaining popularity.
When Just Another Diamond Day was reissued in 2000 the event attracted a huge amount of interest from fans and critics alike, beginning a new chapter in her music career.
After the high-profile re-release had catapulted her back into the public eye a string of collaborations with alternative folkster Devendra Banhart , and others including Animal Collective , followed.
In 2005 Bunyan finally released a second album- 35 years after her debut.
Bunyan’s pure, reedy voice and almost whispered delivery is so beautifully slight it sounds like it could crumple at any moment. The title track from Just Another Diamond Day demonstrates just how enchanting she can be.
