If you think computer generated music is sterile, slightly dystopian and strictly the demesne of clubland, make your way to Alexandra Palace this November, where Bonobo- aka Simon Green- will change your mind.
Green’s earthy music is an eclectic fusion of hazy electronic beats, soulful vocal samples and world music, all with a subtly oriental flavour.
Bonobo cut his teeth as a DJ on the endlessly fertile Brighton music scene, before making the transition to successful recording artist. He has amassed an impressive following since Animal Magic, the first of his five albums, was released in 2001.
With 2013 album The North Borders, Bonobo broke into the UK album charts for the first time
The record marries Green’s limber organic soundscapes with an enchanting bunch of collaborators, including an addictive turn by jazzy R&B vocalist Erykah Badu on album standout Heaven For The Sinner. The track’s sparkling production and chiming strings encapsulate all the elements of the Bonobo blueprint: mellow, easy-listening with compelling hooks and warm humanity underneath the electronic veneer.
The Alexandra Palace gig is the final date of The North Borders album tour, and with support provided by Dark Star and Gold Panda it promises to be a defining moment of Green’s most successful period to date.
