No fan of jazz or funk will need persuasion to attend this historic three-night residency. In 1960s, Roy Ayers was a central player in the jazz scene. He pioneered the sound which was to become known as acid jazz or jazz funk, and was catapulted to greatness with his soundtrack to Coffy -Jack Hill' s 1973 masterpiece of Blaxploitation cinema.
This was then to be fused with R&B, a hybrid which was showcased on his 1975 Mystic Voyage and then later on his 1976 LP Everybody Loves the Sunshine. Never one to settle, Ayers continued to evolve as he dabbled with Disco, Dance and Afrobeat through the 1980s before releasing a number of 90s releases through the Hip Hop label Ichiban Records. Whilst this intense recording and gigging schedule was in action, Ayers managed to set up two record labels: Uno Melodic and Gold Mink Records. Still not satisfied with his resumé, through the 2000s he dabbled in House music, working with the genre’s godfather Kerri Chandler and Masters at Work. Oh, he's also been a fictional radio host in the computer game Grand Theft Auto IV.
An expert in composition, playing and management, Ayers is no stranger to the live show. Attendees can expect a vibrant, diverse and perfectly executed performance- as well as good old 1970s showmanship.
