Mitsuhiro Araki only brought his edomae sushi concept to London from Ginza in 2014, however the Japanese restaurant has already achieved three Michelin stars – joining an elite list of only four other restaurants in London. One of The Araki's special draws is that every seat is at the chef's table: there is just one menu at the set price of £310, only two sittings per night from Tuesday to Sunday, and only nine seats available at each sitting. If diners are more than half an hour late then they will have missed their chance, as the doors are locked and Araki begins to work his magic.
One of its standout dishes is the tuna tartare with soy sauce, shavings of white Alba truffle, and a mayonnaise made in front of the diners. The restaurant itself is breathtaking with Edo period-inspired décor and a counter made from a two hundred year-old Japanese cypress. Celebrity fans include David Beckham, who famously documented his visit in 2017 via Instagram stories.
