Ten restaurants that recapture that holiday feeling
Not risking a trip abroad this summer? We don't blame you. Thankfully, you don't need to travel far to have your appetite for foreign flavours sated. London is a melting pot, bubbling with traditional cuisines from around the world. It's also a launching pad for bold and experimental fusion concepts.
From the dining room that fully immerses its guests in the Italian experience to the hidden-under-the-arches gem offering a one-way ticket to Porto, these restaurants conjure up our favourite holiday destinations, transporting us far, far away via our taste buds
Prior to 2020's lockdown, Columbia and Venezuela were among the most popular up-and-coming destinations among discerning travellers seeking culture and good food. Arepa & Co specialises in arepas (South American pancakes) made with masa harina corn, stuffed with a local tangy cheese, and choices of fried chicken, soft shell crab and chilli mayo or grilled aubergine with pineapple and coconut chutney,
Besides arepas, other Venezuelan-inspired dishes include tequeños – smoky, salty cheese in crisp pastry parcels which are utterly addictive. Likewise, hot salty paprika yucca chips with a garlic and coriander dip are divine.
For brunch, there are cachapas: corn pancakes with bacon and cheese. More hearty dishes include a seafood stew from the Caribbean Venezuelan coast.
The large terrace is gorgeous with bright blue metal furniture and little potted cacti on each table.
