Ten restaurants that recapture that holiday feeling
Not risking a trip abroad this summer? We don't blame you. Thankfully, you don't need to travel far to have your appetite for foreign flavours sated. London is a melting pot, bubbling with traditional cuisines from around the world. It's also a launching pad for bold and experimental fusion concepts.
From the dining room that fully immerses its guests in the Italian experience to the hidden-under-the-arches gem offering a one-way ticket to Porto, these restaurants conjure up our favourite holiday destinations, transporting us far, far away via our taste buds
Bar Douro is the place to get your Portuguese fix in London. Named after the river along which the grapes were traditionally transported to Porto for converting into port, the original restaurant proved so popular it's recently been able to spawn a sister restaurant in the City. Sitting at the bar decorated with the kind of blue and white tiling you'll covet for your home, nibbling on salt cod fritters, garlic prawns, grilled sardines with blistered peppers and fennel with a glass of port and tonic really does feel almost as good as being there. A properly authentic Pastei de nata (custard tart) with cinnamon ice cream and a cheeky tawny port completes the illusion.
