In an intimated balance of art, film and food, KAISEKI by Kitchen Theory presents an event that aims to “reinterpret the traditional dining experience.” As with many radical concepts, this is a collaborative endeavor, with Kitchen Theory founder Jozef Youssef teaming up with award-winning designer and calligrapher Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic (his portfolio includes work for Kanye West and KENZO) to design a banquet that will leave you tingling.
Kaiseki is the term for a multi-course Japanese dinner, (similar to modern tasting menus) steeped in philosophy and focused on multi-sensory stimulation: the colours, scents, and textures of the food are all taken into account, as is the environment in which it is served. Islington's very own pleasure dome, House of Wolf has the perfect blend of grandeur and creativity to offset the menu.
On this theme, the evening kicks off with a film directed by Aerosyn-Lex, followed by an unusual menu of seasonal Japanese cuisine. Expect dishes rich in symbolism and high on flavour. Heads up: the lone long noodle piped into a consommé represents eternal life, so you best slurp it down.
