Pizza Union first opened in Spitalfields, but a second branch has recently appeared on Pentonville Road. We took a trip to King’s Cross to check it out. The restaurant is canteen-style, and the décor expectedly hip. Exposed pipework, Emin-esque neon lettering, tiled walls, and a spectacular mosaic pizza oven: all the boxes are ticked.
Having ordered at the counter, you’re given a buzzer which tells you when your meal’s ready. The pizzas, which start from as low as £3.95, are excellent: simple, fresh, and pleasingly crispy. The menu is by no means revolutionary, but when the basics are done so well, who minds?
For those with a sweet tooth, there are a selection of tempting dough rings, boasting indulgent toppings like Nutella, mascarpone and salted caramel. Perfect comfort food.
The deal is sealed by quick and friendly service so next time you’re in the area, make sure to stop by.
