New Mexican restaurant London: DF Mexico, Wahaca's Thomasina Miers
MasterChef winner Thomasina Miers took London by storm when she opened the first branch of Mexican street food chain Wahaca back in 2007, and she looks set to do so again with her latest outing – the diner-style DF/Mexico, London's latest Mexican hotspot.
A taste of Mexico: food and drink at Tottenham Court Road's newest diner
Named after Mexico City (known as Distrito Federal or DF to its inhabitants) and inspired by travels in Mexico, New York and Chicago researching modern food trends, the first branch opened in the Old Truman Brewery last year. Now there’s another on the way, joining the throng of Tottenham Court Road restaurants early this September.
On the menu
Expect at counter service, monster portions and gems like steak tacos with chipotle salsa and tomatillo guacamole, NYC Tortas (brioche buns stuffed with chicken, pork or slow cooked chilli beef, smashed avocado and slaw), burritos and sides of chili fries and beans.
Drinks come with free refills, while the dessert menu is all about soft serve ice cream, topped with raspberry and popping candy or dulce de leche and candied peanuts – all of which sounds like a Wahaca-style recipe for city-wide success. A vibrant addition to the host of great restaurants near Tottenham Court Road, Thomasina's new Mexican restaurant will, given Wahaca's immense popularity, no doubt be quite a hit.
