It’s a freezing cold night, you’ve climbed a seemingly never-ending flight of stairs and—like many intrepid explorers—you’re looking for warmth, food and drink to make it worth your while.
Never one to disappoint, Queen of Hoxton has once again covered its roof with an eight-metre-high tipi to shelter work-weary adventurers. This time around, WigWamBam has been given a Northern-lights inspired makeover, with shimmering purple and green lights projected inside and out, giving the whole place a festive buzz.
To add to the Nordic atmosphere, straight in front of you as you walk in is a huge grill, complete with sizzling sausages and bubbling stews. We recommend the Norwegian lamb and potato stew, and don’t forget to ask for some red cabbage on top. There’s also a daily special, anything from elk meatballs to buffalo burgers, so check online to find out which day suits your taste buds best.
There are DIY marshmallow sticks to roast afterwards, but we found the hot drinks worked perfectly as a dessert (although they seemed to serve pretty well as a starter too). Treat yourself to the utterly delicious hot gin punch or try the mulled cider for something a bit spicier.
So pull up a hide-covered seat, balance your glass on a tree-trunk table and get cosy with some friends. WigWamBam is camped on the Queen of Hoxton’s roof until March 2014.
